Discover Restored Antiques for Modern Living

Centuries of Craft, A Home for Today

We find and restore unique antique furniture. Our collection focuses on creating warm, storied spaces. Special attention is given to pieces for younger generations.

Our Craft

Our work begins long before a piece arrives in our Kyoto atelier. We specialize in the meticulous process of furniture restoration, focusing on vintage wood furniture from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Each item is assessed for its structural integrity, historical value, and potential for a second life. Our craftsmen employ traditional techniques alongside modern conservation methods. The result is classic furniture that retains its soul while gaining renewed strength.

We believe restoration is an act of storytelling. The dents, the patina, and the unique grain of the wood are chapters we preserve. This philosophy is central to our collection of children's beds and writing desks, where we imagine new stories beginning. Our process ensures that every joint is secure and every surface is safe and finished to a high standard. We see ourselves as stewards, passing these objects of beauty and utility to a new generation.

Four Pillars of Our Work

Ethical Sourcing

We travel across Japan and beyond to find classic furniture with a genuine story. Our network of trusted sources ensures every piece has a traceable history.

Conservation-Focused Restoration

Our craftsmen treat each item as a preservation project. The goal is to stabilize and reveal the original beauty of the antique furniture, not to erase its age.

Thoughtful Adaptation

We carefully consider how historical pieces can serve contemporary needs. This philosophy guides our selection of children's room furniture, ensuring safety and functionality.

Sustainable Choice

Choosing restored antiques is a conscious decision for the environment. It gives new life to existing resources and counters disposable culture.

Our Philosophy

We operate on a simple belief: objects of the past carry an intangible value that modern reproductions cannot replicate. The weight of history, the subtle imperfections of handcraft, and the warmth of aged materials contribute to a room's atmosphere. Our philosophy is to intervene minimally, preserving as much of the original material and finish as possible during furniture restoration. We aim to highlight the story, not overshadow it. This respectful approach defines our entire collection, from grand armoires to delicate children's room furniture.

This philosophy extends to sustainability. In a world of mass production, choosing a restored antique is a conscious act. It reduces waste, values resourcefulness, and supports a circular economy. We believe in furnishing homes with pieces that have stood the test of time and are built to last for generations more. A home filled with such pieces tells a unique story of continuity and care. It is an approach to living that values substance over trend.

In a market of varying standards, we maintain unwavering principles. Our focus is exclusively on authentic antique furniture that undergoes a documented restoration process. We provide transparent information about the age, origin, and work performed on every item. Our expertise allows us to source exceptional pieces for specialized needs, including heirloom-quality children's room furniture. We build relationships with our clients, offering guidance to help find the right piece for their space and story.

Dedicated Specialization

We focus solely on antique furniture and its restoration. This deep, narrow expertise informs every decision we make, from sourcing to final finishing.

Transparent Provenance

We strive to provide as much history as possible for each piece. You will know the era, style, and nature of the restoration work undertaken on your vintage wood furniture.

Rigorous Standards

Every item, especially children's beds and writing desks, must pass stringent safety and stability checks before it leaves our workshop.

A Journey Rooted in Kyoto

The story of Kofun Era Furnishings began over two decades ago in a small Kyoto workshop. Our founder, a craftsman with a deep respect for traditional Japanese joinery, started by restoring local tansu chests and getabako for families in the neighborhood. Word of his respectful and skillful work spread, leading to requests for pieces from other eras and cultures. This growing interest in European and American antique furniture among local clients prompted a natural expansion of the collection. The business slowly evolved from a restoration service into a curated showroom.

As the collection grew, so did our understanding of our clients' needs. We noticed a recurring request from families seeking unique, solid-wood pieces for their children—items that could become heirlooms. This led us to actively seek out and restore specific children's beds and writing desks that met our exacting standards for safety and charm. From its humble beginnings, our company has grown into a known source for those seeking authentic restored antiques, yet we maintain the same workshop ethos and commitment to individual care for every piece that enters our space.
